Don,

I have been very busy so sorry for the delay. As I had mentioned, we had a few other contractors bid on the job to repair our hail damaged siding and roof. You were the only one that had the experience of knowing the siding that would match. You even offered to install additional insulation under the siding which is something no one else offered to do. My wife chose a matching architectural shingle and I was happy with the price. I was amazed at how quickly and efficiently your crew did the job. My neighbors used a different contractor and their roof repairs took much longer. The new shingles made our house look so much more attractive. There was virtually no evidence of the work as your crews were very professional in cleaning the mess. I tell everyone about Yorklyn and I am pleased to do it. Yorklyn will be my first choice for any future home improvement projects.

Dear Morgan,

Right from the start we enjoyed working with you. The first time you came to talk with us about our project you listened very carefully to our discussion. You designed plans to help us visualize the project. You worked with us to institute the changes we desired. You gave us confidence that we were choosing the right contractor for the job. You stayed in constant contact with us throughout the entire project. You were always open minded and we felt we could talk to you comfortably about any concerns we had. Our sunroom is exactly what we desired! Thanks for the BIG windows. Everyday we sit in there and enjoy it. It added so much to our house. The garage is great too. I can unload groceries without getting wet. We real really appreciate it this winter. So many neighbors have stopped to tell us how nice our house looks. The project has made such a difference in both appearance and our living enjoyment. Thanks to Stumpy, Chris, Bill, and Barry for your skilled and superb work. We will recommend Yorklyn to anyone looking to improve their home.

Sincerely,

Judy and Jim Miller

May 2010 my house was damaged by hail.  October 2010 I started to look for a company to make the repairs.  On December 29th and 30th Yorklyn Construction Company Inc., replaced the roof, siding and everything in between.  I am very happy that I choose Yorklyn Construction Company Inc.  I feel that I received quality material, installed by quality people at a reasonable price.

First I would like to acknowledge that before this I had no prior knowledge of Yorklyn Construction Co. or any of the people who works there.  I also must say that I know that I am a very picky / particular person and I know that Donald Carr (President of Yorklyn) will smile that little smile of his when he reads this.

I started by looking in the Yellow Book selecting 6 or 7 firms.  My preference was to find one that had a local office so that if I needed too, I could camp on their door steps.  Next I would show up out of the blue at their office too see what their organization was like.  At most, as soon as I walked through the door they were on me like stink on a skunk asking personal information doing the hard sale.  When I entered Yorklyn that did not happen, I walked around looking at displays when I had a question I walked over to a counter and a lady (now known too me as Patty (office manager)) promptly appeared and started to answer them.  As I told her what I wanted she gave the brochures I would need to review and explained each to me.  One of which was very beneficial in helping me find the product I needed to do what I wanted to do.  Next I had Donald Carr (I call him Don now) and the others contractors come to our house to go over the insurance estimate and see the house.  I gave each a copy of the insurance estimate.  Out of that some just said that they would do if for the amount on the estimate but would not put anything on paper.  Others were not experienced or even heard of the insulated vinyl siding I decided I wanted to put on.  Don submitted his estimate which I then rewrote in another format with the detail I wanted, and then submitted that to my two top choices.   The other company lost favor when they were huffy about me asking question like what if I went with this choice or changed to that, saying they would not keep rewriting the estimate (even though they only wrote one).  Don on the other hand keep working with me giving me rough ideas as to what the changes I talked about would cost and we ended up with the estimate I wanted with the detail of the material to be used.  At that point it was a no brainier and I signed with Yorklyn.

This is to show why you should be there when the work is being done.  As they were starting to put up siding I noticed that they were putting “J” channel (track to stick siding into) up next to the windows.  I ask if they needed to do that when the windows were to be boxed in, that’s where 2 ¾ in wood topped with flashing is put around the window to add to its appearance, they replied that their work order from the contract did not have that.  So I got a copy of my contract and even though Don and I had talked extensively about it, it in fact did not make it onto the final contract that I signed.  I had missed it, so I was sweating bullets thinking what a blunder I had made but they called Don and he said yes it was suppose to have been in the contract, so they then called their dispatcher and had the additional material delivered and the windows were boxed, problem solved.

Like wise I was very detailed in the contract as to what material was to be used right down to the brand of bathroom exhaust vent to use to replace the existing one.  When they went to install them I noticed that though they were the brand I had requested, they didn’t have the attach collar needed to attach the 4” vent hose.   So they sent out the word to look for something to make it work and an hour later a guy showed up with the same vents but this one was the kit version that included the 4” attach point.  Through all of this, all the people working there were always very polite, very industrious and even though I am hard of hearing I could easily understand everyone.

Some other things I really like about Yorklyn and Don, before the install, Don called to keep me informed as to what was going on and during the renovating its self, Don stopped by once or twice each day to check with me to see how it was going and to work through any problems or questions.  Finally the cooperation did not stop when they had the check in their pockets.  Week or so after they were done I stopped in to return siding samples and had voiced a concern (minor one) I had with Patty, later when I stopped in again to see Patty for copies of all the material guarantees, Don and the subcontractor who did the work were there and said they had some solutions to run past me.   Last note: after I had signed, a neighbor asked me who he should look at and I told him to contact Yorklyn.  He did and he too signed and even though he was not eyes on during the work like I was, he told me that he too was happy with the service and the work they did.

I hope this helps you in your selection.

 Mr. Carr

My wife and I would like thank you and your crew for the fast, professional service on the installation of our new roof and siding.  It's been a month now and we still can't believe it is the same home.  Your crew was very pleasant, professional, kept the site clean during construction and went above and beyond our expectations.  Of course bribing them with coffee and donuts every day didn't hurt!  But we are very pleased with everything.  And if another project should come up, as I'm sure it will, you can count on a phone call from us.  We are still getting the yard and porches in shape for the summer, when we are done I will forward photos of the final results of our project.  Thank you again for a job well done.

My husband and I wanted to make sure I took a moment today to jot a note to your team to say we are very impressed by the work being done to our home and the team doing it.  The gentlemen are very hard workers, clean up very well, and are very polite.

I work in an insurance company and I sit face to face to our customers during a claim and I hear all the stories and headaches people have, but i never heard a bad story with Yorklyn, and I am seeing why.  Customers can be very upset and scared to do an improvement such as an addition.  I am happy to say that now when they ask me if I have had any personal experience and recommendations, I will gladly let them know our experience with the team at Yorklyn.
My husband and I already have other projects in mind for the future and we know who we are going to call.

Thank you,
Lisa and Michael Ferree
